Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom players are proving there’s no right way to play

Players are quickly proving that just like in breath of the wildthere is no “correct” way to play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

One of the best parts of Breath of the Wild was that there wasn’t just one way to do anything in particular. Sure, there were obvious intentions that Nintendo had for certain sanctuaries and areas, but that doesn’t mean you had to do it that way: speedrunners proved it better than anyone. And that has held true for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with players already proving that there’s no set way to do anything. Spoiler Warning Ahead for Shrines and Early Hours.

For example, take this shrine that requires you to hit a target with a rolling ball. Obviously, what Nintendo wants you to do is use your bat-crafting skills to hit the ball up the ramp and hit the target. But Reddit user TiedSuite2 clearly found that with enough speed, anything connected with the Ultrahand undoes with enough force, and they managed to hit their mark with a simple log. Clean!

There’s also this sanctuary, which again has an obvious purposeful solution, something Garrett Kidney, who shared the clip, doesn’t care about. In it, you must use your abilities and Zonai’s battery to cross a chasm. Instead, Link just grinds the rails on his shield, because you can do that.

Players don’t just take unique approaches to shrines. The world itself is full of mini puzzles that ask you to solve them however you can, even if it’s just getting to another island. On the starting island you will find that you have to use carts to cross the different islands, and one particular crossing has some broken rails which makes it a difficult task. So Reddit user FlashxFlash just made a minecart train, and it works great!

Though as Ding-Dong-Dang demonstrated on Reddit, that doesn’t mean there aren’t wrong ways to do things. It’s the effort that counts!

Though if you need help with some of the shrines because you can’t figure out your own way, we’ve got guides for the first four in the game (namely the Ukouh, In-isa, Gutanbac, and Nachoyah shrines).
