Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the highest rated game of all time on OpenCritic
Probably to no one’s surprise, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the highest-rated game of all time on OpenCritic, and the highest-rated game of the year on Metacritic.
Well folks, it looks like we have a new champion sitting on the throne of the highest rated game of all time in OpenCritic, as Nintendo has stolen the spot with its latest release, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. That title previously belonged to Super Mario Odyssey, Nintendo’s other big-name IP, but Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has managed to snag that top spot, putting the developer in quite the prime position.
However, Tears of the Kingdom only got that number one position by a slim margin, with a difference of less than one percent, as the game Zelda has a very specific score of 97,233 out of 100, while Super Mario Odyssey has 96,811. (thank you, NintendoLife). You’re also probably not surprised to learn that Breath of the Wild is in third place, with a score of 95,905. If you want to compare and contrast the full list of the top 10 games on OpenCritic, here they are for you:
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- super mario odyssey
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Red Dead Redemption 2 (96)
- Elden Ring (95)
- God of War (94)
- The Last of Us Remastered (94)
- Persona 5 real (94)
- Person 5 (94)
- Hades (94)
It’s important to note that OpenCritic mostly only features newer games, so it doesn’t factor in some older titles. That is where Metacritic chimes in, whose top-rated spot is for a different Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. However, at the time of writing this article, Tears of the Kingdom is the top rated game of the yearso it is working fine.
None of this comes as a surprise to us though, as we gave it full marks in our review of the game.
