It looks like The Super Mario Bros. Movie could be a bit musical, as Toad actor Keegan-Michael Key confirms that the mushroom man will sing a bit.
While it’s unclear if the Mario Bros. movie will be a full musical, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb said at the beginning of this year which might have some musical numbers, which now sounds a bit more accurate. speaking to VarietyKey was asked if the perfect creature known as Toad would sing, to which the actor replied yes.
“I had to improvise a song in ‘Super Mario Bros.,’ which was absolutely great,” Key continued. “That was just a fun stick, all of it.” The actor also talked about how he developed the voice, saying “I was working on the voice with my partner and trying to find the voice through the inner journey of the character. And then with the directors.” [Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic]we sprayed some things, we moved them.”

Jack Black, who is taking on the difficult task of voicing Bowser, also said at New York Comic Con that he “rocked a little bit” and that he thinks “you’ll be surprised to see that Bowser has a musical side.” (via IGN).
All is not so cheerful when it comes to the Mario Bros. movie, however, as voice actress Tara Strong recently spoke about casting the titular plumber, saying on Twitter that “it should be Charles [Martinet]While Martinet has lent his voice to the character for decades, Chris Pratt, everyone’s least favorite, is taking the reins on the film, a point of contention for many.
