Creative Director Behind Star Wars: The Old Republic Leaves BioWare After 16 Years

Charles Boyd, the longtime artistic director behind Star Wars: The Old Republic has stepped down and shall be leaving after over 16 years at BioWare (and ten years of The Old Republic, simply celebrating its tenth anniversary final December). In an official BioWare blog post yesterday, the corporate wished a mournful-but-fond farewell to Boyd, commemorating how his expertise and work have been instrumental to the success of The Old Republic; nonetheless, BioWare needed to remind followers of their dedication to the franchise and its tales, feeling in a position to transfer on in the best path with an unbelievable crew backing the challenge. 

As such, the way forward for The Old Republic, in addition to future Dragon Age and Mass Effect entries, will fall into the very succesful palms of Eric Musco, former Community Manager turned Lead Producer who has served BioWare for over a decade, and Ashley Ruhl, now Narrative Director and overseeing The Old Republic plot because it continues to unfold. These two shall be joined by lead author Caitlyn Sullivan Kelly, UX director Alan Copeland, and Gameplay Design director George Smith. 

Closing out the weblog publish is a message from Charles Boyd, thanking the crew at BioWare for the “amazing experience” it had been to have labored on one thing “from its initial vision to a colossal release and then an incredible live service for over a decade.” He continues on to say that he’s excited to expertise the increasing universe “alongside our players” because the crew he loves releases the various “exciting things in the works.” With that, he says his goodbyes, concluding the 16-year profession with BioWare – initially starting on a crew led by Daniel Erickson and writing the Trooper class’s story, amongst different parts, Boyd shortly turned a lead author and labored on many of the sport’s vital expansions till promotion to Creative Director in 2016.
