Fighting game streamer and player Majin Obama lights up Shibuya Crossing in billboard ads

Twitch streamer, content creator, and Guilty Gear Strive Celestial Ranking Keeper Majin Obama has recently begun to illuminate the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world: the Shibuya crossing. Earned as part of a series of Twitch promotional campaigns in Japan, Mr. Obama was able to reap the net reward of having his stream and face plastered in bustling Tokyo.

Majin Obama, a longtime fighting game player and former English teacher, has gradually built an audience as one of the most charismatic creators in the communities. Along with his broadcast work, they have created videos on a variety of hot topics, including the recent closed beta of Street Fighter 6, the “official FGC certification examand a guide on how to get rich on twitch after the flight of profits at the end of last year.

Communicating with him via Twitter direct messages, Majin Obama expressed how he felt “proud but also lucky”, the glowing screens in Shibuya affirming the fortune and work that has gone into his career thus far. “I guess I’ve come a long way in more ways than one since I started streaming, but I feel lucky to have built a strong community along with that.”

That community has come together to celebrate the occasion, sharing videos and screenshots of Majin Obama in a dramatic black and white Arabian robe and headscarf as he lights up the horizon. However, Obama made sure to take time off the internet to visit billboards with offline friends, as anyone would.

As for what’s next for the streamer, they have big plans for 2022 and beyond. “For my stream, I want to keep doing what we’ve been doing, play fighting games, complete some games, some IRL, but I also want to branch out a little bit more, get out of my comfort zone and innovate. I plan on doing more crazy and experimental stuff using the resources and space I have here, so I’m looking forward to it!” The next few months are big for fighting games, as you may know, with Street Fighter 6 and even Project L making waves in the genre’s ecosystem.

“Other than that, 2023 is going to be a great year for me. I want to start traveling again and going to local/fg events and all over the world.”
