Would you pay over £30 for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Burger King DLC skin? Because some people are

Here is a sentence that I never would have predicted to write, even a week ago: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 fans are spending up to £30 and more on codes for a king of burgers skin.

A quick look at eBay will show you that people are listing codes that have been collected from Burger King, for a limited-time in-game cosmetic, and the going rate is usually over £30. Some are higher (there is demand for the delivery) and some even charge more for postage. Which is… interesting… since you just need to enter the code on your console or PC to redeem it.

Burger King is currently offering a Call of Duty-themed meal that will reward you with a free in-game operator skin (it’s basically just a t-shirt commemorating the fictional in-universe location, Burger Town) and an hour of double XP. for Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer.

The promotion is not available in the US or UK, although it is offered in more than 40 countries around the world. As such, people from the two excluded nations are supposed to be paying out of pocket for the opportunity to wear a BK jersey in the game. Prices are going down a bit now; Heading into the weekend, we saw the $40 listings sell out pretty quickly.

It’s refreshing, actually, given that promotions are usually stacked unfairly in favor of those in the US and UK – many of the listings on the auction site come from Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, France or Australia.

In some areas, like Puerto Rico according to the tweet embedded below, the promotion goes beyond a MW2-themed meal, and CoD has even taken over the branding of the entire location.

It remains to be seen if the Burger Town skin will be released outside of this promo, or if more official ways to nab the cosmetic will be introduced for UK and US players. For now though, if it wants to be a walking advertisement If you’re a BK speaker and live in the UK or US, you’ll have to be patient or shell out some money.
