Ubisoft has clarified that it will not remove Ubisoft accounts that include PC games purchased from the Ubisoft Store or have an active Ubisoft subscription.
News reports over the weekend found gamers reporting that Ubisoft was labeling their accounts “inactive,” indicating they would lose purchased games.
Since the news broke, an update from Ubisoft has clarified how things will work (thanks, Blue).
According to the company, inactive Ubisoft accounts, no PC purchases either active subscriptions linked to themmay be closed to comply with data protection laws after long periods of inactivity.
Accounts linked to an active Ubisoft subscription or PC games that were purchased from the Ubisoft store, are not eligible for removal.
That being said, Ubisoft may close long-term inactive accounts to maintain its database, but you will be notified by email if you initiate the process of closing your inactive account.
If your Ubisoft account is marked inactive and you want to continue using it, you can cancel the account closure.
In your email, which is sent to the address you registered with, you will see a cancellation link. If you can’t find this email, you may want to check your spam folder.
Ubisoft said if you think the cancellation email was received in error, you’ll need to contact the company.
On rare occasions, Ubisoft said that it can “immediately close inactive accounts to comply with local data protection legislation,” as part of its Terms of Use. This is only if you have strong reasons to believe that the account in question will not be used.
