This fan-made Akali model for Project L has bolstered the hype for Riot’s fighter

Earlier this week, Twitter user killianjunk raised their own opinion about what Akali it would look just like Project L. It’s brilliant, so brilliant in fact that when I was casually browsing Twitter on Thursday morning, I thought it was part of a legitimate ad at first glance.
The model is created in line with Akali’s classic skin, fully 3D and with a shader (created by the user AerthasVeras) which is as close to the actual game model as one could reasonably expect. It’s almost uncanny how much it resembles a genuine Project L character, so much so that Project L director Tom Cannon himself praised the work.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the Project L team, having left us with a long-form blog post on Illaoi that walked us through the champion’s design philosophy. But, as KillianJunk showed, the excitement around new champion reveals is still burning in the hearts of fans around the world.
We’re still in for one more big reveal for the game sometime this year, but while we wait, it’s good to see some talented folks keeping the game top of mind for fighting game fans and die-hard Riot going forward. foreseeable. As for Killian, we hope they create more character concepts for Project L in the future, even if the game is probably a million years away.
For more Project L content, we actually have some in-game features worth reading about. The first is a chat with League fans at this year’s LEC finals in Malmo about whether they care about the game, while the other is a chat with Alberto Guererro about Riot’s hopes for the game as far as electronic sports.
