The Street Fighter 6 wifi wars have begun

The Street Fighter 6 community is throwing fists at one another online following the reveal that Wi-Fi indicators will appear next to players who go to online lobbies. With this information available to the world, the debate surrounding the merits of wired versus wireless connections has been raised once again.

It’s an argument that’s been raging for years, born out of the importance of a stable connection in the genre when netcode wasn’t as good as it is these days. Back then, a wireless connection would result in unplayable matches. In Street Fighter 6, the network code is good enough for wifi warriors to play nice, but the stigma still remains.

“This is discrimination at the highest level,” write Pemo on Twitter, in response to a tournament organizer claiming that wifi players will be banned from SF6 tournaments he hosts. “Are they just going to alienate people from playing with others? I don’t know what you senile boomers have against technology. The router is in my room and I have fiber internet. This is not in the ’90s, we no longer need cables.”

Posts like these are shared, mocked, and memed across a variety of online fighting game spaces, including Reddit and infamous ScrubquotesX Twitter account. For years, those who died on the hill where their router stood have been the butt of ridicule. You can understand why – wifi used to screw up online matches all the time – not that this new wave of Street Fighter fans would know.

But on the other side of this debate is a new generation of Wi-Fi advocates. Different and more convincing than those who claim to have good Wifi. It turns out that for many, online matches on all continents have worked fine over Wi-Fi, largely due to the vast improvements made to Street Fighter 6’s network code. It’s quickly becoming popular opinion that ethernet cable It was a weapon of the dark days. A new time is now, old. You can disconnect that cable.

The fact is that a wired connection will always be better than a wireless one. That’s just reality. However, when the difference starts to have a negligible effect on your matches (unless you’re actually playing Brazilian Kens from your vacation home in Germany), how do you get years of hard campaigning off the minds of online fans? ?
