The Sims 4 latest update eradicates all “wholly unacceptable content” from its gallery

The Sims 4 is no stranger to regular updates, with a bustling community of creatives building architecturally interesting homes and vibrant, manic Simmers. It’s a community that has thrived since its inception and one that Maxis rarely neglects.
This time, Maxis has distributed the Gallery Profanity Filter Updatewhich means rinsing your gallery of any “unacceptable content,” according to the short blog post in the update.
“We are aware and have seen a few select cases of totally unacceptable content being uploaded to The Sims 4 Gallery,” the statement read. “Our team reviewed and made critical updates to the profanity filter to help prevent this from happening again in the future.”
Maxis continues: “We are grateful for the community’s vigilance to help us identify these inappropriate uploads, so we can maintain a safe and creative environment for our players. We will continue to do our part by promptly removing objectionable content that appears, identifying and removing repeat infringers, and regularly reviewing the profanity filter in case any updates are needed.”
While Maxis didn’t share any examples of the content it’s been removing from the gallery, or any details on exactly how the profanity filter was updated, you can imagine what kind of content it’s gone the extra mile to get rid of.
Considering that The Sims 4 Gallery is a space where players can upload their own builds, Sim families, and entire lots, there are plenty of ways for players to be creative and offensive at the same time. Maxis encourages players who come across profane content to report it using the “Flag This” option in-game.
Players finding ways to create and share offensive content in-game is nothing new, but it’s nice to see Maxis combating content with a sense of urgency.
We’ve also witnessed some wacky updates in the past, which somehow introduced inappropriate content into The Sims 4 unnecessarily. In August, Sims sexual orientation was added to the game.
However, along with this came a couple of problems. There was a super-fast aging bug that saw young children transform into old men in a matter of minutes, and quirks that wished for inappropriate relationships with siblings and teenagers. This was also fixed pretty quickly as you can imagine, but it was a fun accident nonetheless.
It’s also worth noting that Project Rene, which is said to be The Sims 5, was recently announced. In light of this, The Sims 4 has become completely free to play. You may have already picked it up for free at one of Origin’s many free weekends, but the game is now playable for free in its entirety on both PC and consoles.
