Tears of the Kingdom players keep forgetting Ascend exists

Link has a whole set of new powers in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but it seems like a lot of people are forgetting that Ascend exists.
I think I’ve lost count of how many times I accidentally hit the d-pad trying to pick one of my powers in Tears of the Kingdom. For those just starting out with the sequel, you might not realize that this is how they chose their Sheikah slate abilities in Breath of the Wild, as opposed to the L button in Tears of the Kingdom. Muscle memory is obviously kicking in here, and I think for me it also makes me forget what powers I have, particularly Ascend, and it seems like a lot of other players keep forgetting that as well.
On the Zelda subreddit, a user has started a thread titled “Anyone [else] forget that the ability Ascend exists[s]”, and out of the 369 comments, a lot of people seem to agree. “Yeah, I spent the first few hours underground where it’s not that useful,” wrote one user. “Then I went to explore a well and really thought I couldn’t go back. to get out.” This one is incredibly relatable for me: I literally used a rock I picked up with Ultrahand, and then used Recall to get out of a pit, completely forgetting that I can Ascend out of there.
Another talked about its uses against the Battle Talus, those new forms of those big rockers that equip themselves with platforms and Bokoblins. “I had such a strong epiphany that I heard a bubble pop in my head when it finally clicked that I can Ascend to get on a Battle Talus and hit its rock,” the user wrote. “I was leaning over trying to get on that stupid thing, but I couldn’t get over the wooden battlements. Ascend. Duh!”
Others in the thread shared that they would forget a lot about Recall too, which, again, me too, but now I’m going to use it to quickly save things I left on a sky island. Things like that really show you how Recall could be the Tears of the Kingdom of the game. strongest ability. It’s cool though that Ascend is basically cheating (something the devs admitted they love to do).
