Splinter Cell is back… as an 8-part BBC Radio 4 drama

Are you eagerly awaiting the next fragmented cell Redo? You know, the one that’s apparently being rewritten for a modern audience and recently lost its director (who had 11 years of experience at Ubisoft)? Well, if the wait is unbearably tough, then we’ve got good news for you: Splinter Cell is back, in the form of a BBC Radio 4 drama!
Yes it’s weird. According to a BBC statement, the radio drama follows veteran Fourth Echelon agent Sam Fisher on a new mission, where he will be “recruiting and training the next generation of Splinter Cell agents for the Agency’s covert action division.” of National Security”.
“When a deadly assassin from Fisher’s past returns from the dead on an assassination mission, he finds himself in a race against time as a sinister threat to global security is revealed.”
If you’re a BBC Radio 4 regular, you’ll recognize the sweet tones of the actor who plays Sam Fisher: Andonis Anthony, best known for his role on BBC Radio’s The Archers, plays everyone’s favorite wet-work agent. According to Beeb, he can also look forward to hearing the talents of Daisy Head, Rosalie Craig, Sacha Dhawan, Nikesh Patel and Will Poulter.
There’s a lot of BBC talent on the show; it’s all been written by Sebastian Baczkiewicz and Paul Cornell, the latter of whom has writing credits on Doctor Who, Holby City and Casualty.
The whole thing must start in Friday, December 2 at 14:15 (GMT). All eight episodes will air at the same time and will be available to listen to on the BBC Sounds app.
This is a good preamble for the highly anticipated new version of Splinter Cell, which was first announced last year, and is being developed by Ubisoft Toronto (most recently in charge of Far Cry 6). Other than Ubi saying ‘yes, it’s real’, we don’t know much about the project, though it’s likely still an outing: producer Matt West said the game is “very early in development” in 2021.
But at least you have a radio show to help you with the wait.
