Sea of Thieves latest crossover brings it to Monkey Island

sea of thieves is getting another free crossover expansion, this time with the very nice setting Monkey Island series.
In yesterday’s Xbox showcase, we got a glimpse of the latest world Sea of Thieves will visit, having had a crossover with the also fitting Pirates of the Caribbean. While not quite as high profile as Pirates of the Caribbean, and can be a bit unnerving for the younger player base, The Legend of Monkey Island is still a great series to tap into. In this three-part series of free updates, you begin by venturing to Mêlée Island, where you’ll meet the one and only Guybrush Threepwood, bushy beard added.
Described as a “love letter to the classic adventure game series,” you’ll be able to take part in the new stories alone or as part of a team, with the first update coming on July 20. You will also get to meet other classic Monkey Island characters like LeChuck, Murray the Demonic Speaking Skull, Elaine and a few more.
“Solve puzzles, battle adversaries, and face unexpected trials as you strive to right situations gone strangely awry and face imminent danger born from the powers of both worlds,” shared developer Rare. You don’t have to worry about other players either, as this new adventure will take place in the Sea of the Damned, just like the Pirates of the Caribbean update, which was kept separate from the main game.
Unfortunately, it appears that the original creator of Monkey Island, Ron Gilbert, not actually told about the crossover that was happening, so it came as a surprise to both him and the rest of us. This is made even stranger by the fact that he co-designed Return to Monkey Island, which released last year.
The Monkey Island update is coming to Sea of Thieves on July 20, completely free for all players.
