Roblox data leak exposes almost 4,000 employees’ personal information – company says sorry

A data breach has hit Roblox Corporation, resulting in nearly 4,000 employees having their personal details leaked online. For some, this includes names, addresses, date of birth, and IP.

This was discovered and highlighted today by trojan hunt, creator of Have I Been Pwned, a website that allows you to see if your personal information has been disclosed online. According to Hunt on Twitter, this leak affected Roblox Developer Conference attendees and appeared in a now-deleted forum post long enough for several bad actors to get their hands on the information.

According to PC Gamerwhich Have I Been Pwned reviewed as part of its own report, the data was first collected in December 2020, distributed in Roblox niche slots around 2021, only to be posted on the forum mentioned a few days ago.

In response, Roblox Corporation has provided a year of identity protection for employees with a lot of identifiable information available and, according to Hunt, sent an apology email to those minimally affected. A piecemeal answer, even for those who receive considerable assistance, since it’s not like your information will just evaporate from the internet once a year has passed.

Roblox has a history of leaks when it comes to upcoming items, but data leaks of this nature aren’t all that common. If you are affected by such a data breach, two-factor authentication and a mass password change are recommended.

Roblox is still one of the most popular gaming platforms on the market right now, especially for the younger generation. Thousands of children play various games every day, including Anime Journey and Tapping Legends X. As such, data security is crucial to protecting a user base that may not be familiar with security best practices.
