Pokemon Sleep might be the most boring Pokemon product ever released

Pokemon Sleep is the latest move from the Pokemon Company, combining mobile gaming and sleep aids into one. It’s a basic, basic app with a cute art style that can be used to help you form a healthy sleep pattern. Honestly though, that’s about it.

After being in the works for a while, the mobile game is now available on the Apple App Store and google play store for free, but it features in-game microtransactions that are worth knowing about.

The app itself isn’t too difficult to handle either. When you start Pokemon Sleep up for the first time, you will meet Professor Neroli, who will help you start your quest to get at least 8.5 hours of sleep per night. After the fall of Neroli, you will meet the sleeping Pokémon, Snorlax, who will be your best friend in Pokémon Sleep.

With the introductions out of the way, you’ll then be tasked with choosing a suitable bedtime, sticking to it, and racking up the recommended 8.5 hours of sleep a night. Pokemon Sleep will then track your sleeping pattern, even recording the noise you made throughout the night (this can be turned off, if you want), and you’ll attract different Pokemon to it.

That’s how it is; you’ll attract Pokemon to the small island Pokemon Sleep is on simply by sleeping, and these ‘mons’ will have their own Sleep Styles for you to collect as well. If you want them to stay, you will have to collect and feed them a lot of food.

The thing is, that’s it for Pokemon Sleep, aside from constantly feeding Snorlax every day. During different periods of time throughout the day, you can open the app and feed Snorlax meals to help him level up faster; the higher his level, the more new Pokémon you can attract.

It’s a basic, mobile sleep aid, so I wasn’t expecting much from Pokemon Sleep; maybe that’s the whole point. Minimal distraction means better sleep, right?

That being said, I didn’t expect it to be that boring either. I know this is a sleep aid and the distraction should be minimal, but I was hoping there was more to it. Also, how am I supposed to control my sleep pattern, and catch them all, if different ways of sleeping attract different Pokémon? I’m not sure.

It’s early days, so maybe we’ll see more features added to Pokemon Sleep in the future… What do you think could be added to the app to make it better?
