Phil Spencer calls investigations of Activision deal “warrented,” still confident deal will happen

With a deal as big as the one Microsoft is trying to pull off, it’s no surprise that it’s under some scrutiny. The UK Competition and Markets Authority is concerned whether the deal will “reduce competition”, so there are still questions about whether or not it will go ahead. In a recent interview on the Wall Street Journal Live Technology However, Spencer said the investigations were “warranted” (via CVG).

“It may be surprising to people, but I’m not an expert on $70 billion deals,” Spencer said. “But I know that we are very focused on getting approval in the major jurisdictions, and I spend a lot of time in Brussels, London and with the FTC here in the US.

The main argument against Microsoft, however, is that the deal is mostly about mobile gaming, rather than titles like Call of Duty, as that’s a sector the tech company hasn’t quite figured out yet. The CMA recently said the public is now open to offer its opinion on the deal, with a March 1 deadline for its decision on the investigation, so it’s only a matter of time before we know if it will take place. or not.
