Mockingbirdthe gaslamp fantasy game directed by former Bioware boss Aaryn Flynn, will now see its early access release in the fall.
As reported by eurogamerIn a recent Nightingale developer update video, developer Inflexion Games confirmed that the survival game would no longer launch in early access sometime in the first half of 2023, but would instead come out in the fall, placing it in the second half. of the year. “The reason for the release change is simple: the testing process is working,” Flynn said in the developer update video, which you can watch below.
“The feedback we’ve been getting from the players has been invaluable and the extra time will allow us to continue the progress we’ve been making, without jeopardizing the health of our team. There are several things we want to do with this extra time, from Quality of life improvements from creating bench animations, to tweaks, progression, and pacing, to continuing to work on making the realms feel as mystical and amazing as possible.”
While the early access release of the game has been delayed, it means that Inflexion has been able to move to Unreal Engine 5.2. Playtests are still on the way, with the next one coming next week.
Nightingale was first revealed at The Game Awards in 2021, described as “a shared-world survival crafting game set in a rich gaslamp-filled Victorian fantasy setting.” It’s got the usual stuff you’d expect from the genre, like crafting, literal building construction, and large, sprawling “realms” that you can explore in co-op or solo. Flynn shared last year that he wants players to have more “agency” over what they do in survival games, and he hopes to do that with in-game systems.
You’ll be able to play Nightingale on PC via Steam or Epic Games when it launches in early access later this year, but there’s no word on a console release.
