To the bewilderment of many, Henry Cavill is no longer playing Geralt in Netflix’s Witcher series, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role.
The good news (depending on how strongly you feel about this recast) is that the show will return for a fourth season, though Cavill won’t be returning for it. Netflix announced yesterday (October 29) that the other Hemsworth would take on the role, for reasons that aren’t entirely clear, though they could have something to do with the actor. officially returns as Superman.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been full of monsters and adventures and sadly I will be putting down my medallion and swords for Season 4,” Cavill said in a statement. “As with the greatest literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent incarnating Geralt and with excitement to see Liam’s version of this fascinating and nuanced man.”
Hemsworth also had something to say about his choice, unsurprisingly, saying, “As a fan of the Witcher, I’m thrilled at the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s here.” handing me over the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s swords for the next chapter of his adventure.”
The third season of The Witcher has yet to air, it’s currently planned to premiere sometime in the summer of 2023, so we still have a bit of Cavill left.
CD Projket Red also recently announced that the first Witcher game will be getting a remake made in Unreal Engine 5. Basically, there are no details about this remake apart from the engine it’s being made in, and the fact that Polish studio Fool’s Theory is where most of the development is happening, but it’s the latest in a series of announcements from CD Projekt.
