Whether it’s the voice actors leaking things they really shouldn’t, or legitimate tidbits of information from unreliable sources, Konami just hasn’t been able to keep up the rumors about a solid metal gear 3 redo quiet.

And today, at the PlayStation Showcase in May 2023, Konami finally shrugged and lifted the lid on what it’s been cooking up for the past few years.

Check out the trailer for the newly announced Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater here.

That’s right, everyone’s favorite boss is back, and this time he’s bringing an HD texture pack or two with him. Or so it seems.

If you think it’s strange that a remake campaign begins with the third entry, it makes sense: Snake Eater sold very well on PS2, when it released in November 2004, achieving 2.38 million units sold in Asia and the United States. United States in a few months. So there’s a strong fan base that’s interested in the title.

Being a PS2 title, development for modern consoles may have been more nimble than for PS1 games – look at what Atlus accomplished with modern ports of Persona 3 and 4, for example.

The first rumors that this game existed began to circulate recently, now. It was first suggested that we would get a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in October 2021, when rumors and conjecture suggested that Virtuos would be the studio working on the game.

As for what else Konami has on the books, a report from VGC’s Andy Robinson suggested that we might even see another Castlevania game release from the publisher in the near future.

That, plus the Silent Hill 2 remake already confirmed to be in production, sets us up nicely for a bit of a Konami renaissance, in theory. Let’s wait and see if the long-dormant publisher can make a proper comeback.
