Marvel’s Spider-Man Harry Osborn’s original voice actor, Scott Porter, has apparently been recast in the upcoming sequel.

Spoilers for the Marvel’s Spider-Man post-credits scene below.

As reported by eurogamerin a tweet now deleted de Porter, who voiced Harry in voice clips you’d find throughout the game, the actor wrote that he would not reprise his role in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. “Although I did voice Harry in the first Spider-Man, unfortunately not being in the sequel,” he wrote. “They decided to go photorealistic and I think the age gap between me and Harry was too hard to overcome. I was bummed out, but I get it. It’s going to be an amazing game.”

It’s unclear why Porter could have been recast for such a reason, as Spider-Man himself is voiced by 51-year-old Yuri Lowenthal, eight years older than 43-year-old Porter. It’s especially weird, since the remastered version of Spider-Man actually recast the web-slinger’s face-capture actor to someone younger in an attempt to more closely match Lowenthal’s performance, so who knows what the decision behind it was. Porter’s recast, if that’s the case.

Overall, Harry is expected to have a more prominent role in the sequel, as the ending of the first game set him up to have some sort of connection to the classic symbiote. And who do we know that he will appear in the sequel? Venom himself, voiced by none other than the immaculate Tony Todd (Candyman).

The sequel is also expected to take a darker tone than the previous two games, with a comparison between the first Spider-Man game and Star Wars: A New Hope, and this full sequel feels more like The Empire Strikes Back.

While we don’t have a full release date for Spider-Man 2, it’s still expected to release in 2023, exclusively for PS5.
