Lords of the Fallen’s “Dual Worlds” is helping set it apart from its Dark Souls inspirations

lords of the fallen He had another gameplay showcase yesterday, showing off his “Dual Worlds” and tough looking bosses.

While this Lords of the Fallen reboot has been a long time in development, it’s only a few months away from its October release. Yesterday at the Future Games Show we took another look at Soulslike, with a particular highlight of its “Dual Worlds” – something that feels like it should be set apart from its Dark Souls inspirations. Essentially, the entire world will have two versions, one from the real world, so to speak, and the other from the Umbral realm, a spiritual realm that has different paths, enemies, and treasures to discover.

It looks like you’ll be using an Umbral Lamp to travel between these two worlds, with two main ways to do it. The first is simple: die! When an enemy kills you, you will be resurrected instantly, albeit in the Umbral realm instead of the real world. The other still involves dying, sort of, though this method, called Umbral rift, only requires you to sacrifice one of your two lives. It also looks like you can use your lamp to see the other world, which seems pretty impressive from a technical standpoint. For the wise though, you don’t want to spend too much time in the Umbral realm, as the more you do, the more spectral terrors will appear to try to kill you again.

The bosses also look suitably gross and meaty, as you’d expect from a Dark Souls-inspired game, ranging from hulking behemoths that really want to crush you, to a good-turned-evil knight that sure looks hideous like Malenia, Blade of Miquella. . .

Lords of the Fallen will go on sale this October and you can buy it on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.
