It looks like one of 2022’s best PlayStation Plus games is finally coming to Xbox

Robots, machines and mutant bacteria – not traditionally the playmates of beautiful little cats, are they? However, 2022 Lost managed to make the relationship between cats and robots and things that shouldn’t be, somehow, incredibly sweet. All the reviewers agreed: this was a game for everyone, a wonderful feline-lensed platforming experiment carried out with charm and heart. It’s a shame that anyone who doesn’t have a PlayStation or a PC never gets the chance.
Well now, a year later, things are looking more hopeful for cat lovers on the Xbox side of the console rift. Stray, which has been a PlayStation console exclusive since its release on July 19, 2022, has now been given a new Xbox rating by the European Software Rating Board (or ESRB for short).
Twitter user @MACOS380 discovered that Stray has been rated E for everyone 10 and older by the ratings board. Similar to the previous version of the release, the ESRB notes that Stray features animated gore and fantasy violence.
It’s not a spoiler to share that the rating draws attention to various plot points and the dangers you’ll encounter as you guide your stray cat back home. “Players will sometimes come across parasite blobs/mouse-like bots that can attack and kill the cat,” he notes. “Players can access an ultraviolet light to defeat the mouse-like bots, causing them to explode and emit splashes of colored liquid.” It’s everything you’d expect from a cat simulator, but I still think it would have been better with a dog.
The game, as well as being a win for Sony when it came to getting the rights to interesting and unique indie titles, was also a major addition to PlayStation Plus. At launch, Stray was available to members of PlayStation Plus Extra, Deluxe and Premium tiers, a big statement designed to highlight the launch of Sony’s revamped Game Pass subscription service. Does that mean we’ll likely see Stray coming to Xbox Game Pass? It is not impossible.
So when can we finally enjoy this third-person adventure game and the company of our eponymous alley cat on Xbox consoles? Nothing has been confirmed yet, but these console deals often carry a year of forced exclusivity for your platform, and that means we’ll likely see Stray coming to Xbox at or around the time. July 19, 2023 (Take it with a pinch of salt, though.)
Stray did very well with players and critics all over the world. In its launch week alone, he managed to win over over 62,000 cat lovers on Steam alone (whose gamers thought it was better than God of War, for crying out loud). If you’re an achievement hunter you’ll be tasked with channeling your inner cat to get all the sweet spots and, take this from someone who’s done it on PlayStation, it’s one of the most fun lists you’ll ever paw at. this year.
When the game launched for PlayStation, we heard that it helped save real-life homeless cats; we hope a new life in the cool little adventure of BlueTwelve will do the same again this year.
