How to Get Nails in Darkwood

Dark wood is an exceptionally tense and challenging game. Without guidance or directions, you will be alone, left to search and survive. Only the strongest player with the most resources will survive for long. One ingredient that will be a constant for new players is nails. For all kinds of defensive reasons, nails abound. But where the heck can you get so many? Here’s how to find nails in Darkwood
How to find nails in Darkwood
There are two ways to get nails in Darkwood: through gathering and trading. Unfortunately, there is no way to make them. It’s a finite resource, only renewable through trade, so be frugal with them.
In nature
Sure, they don’t grow on trees, but there are plenty out there to fool someone into thinking they do. Darkwood manages to fit a staggering amount of content into the map you play on, via compact waypoints and unmarked resource points.

As you explore, make sure you always have room in your inventory to transport things you find back to base. Lost crates or containers will not appear on the map. Throughout your travels, you will find boxes, each of which needs a lockpick to open. Make sure you always have a lockpick with you, otherwise you may forget where the box was and never reveal your loot.

By poking around like this, you’ll find many, many nails. Try not to stress if you’re having a hard time finding any, just keep looking and stay on your toes.
It’s not what you know, it’s who you know
After the second night, the merchant will appear at your house and time will freeze. Every day you will earn 100 reputation points, which is the “currency” in Darkwood. You can sell items to gain more reputation, and buying items depletes it.

The merchant will have 20 nails on him every day, each costing only 2 reputation points. If he wishes, he can stock up on nails every day, for a not too high cost, allowing him to reserve some reputation for future purchases.
With those two methods, you can relax. Soon, nails won’t be as sparse as you think.
