Hideo Kojima isn’t directing the Death Stranding movie, but he is “deeply involved” in it

Hideo Kojima might be one of the biggest movie nerds, but he won’t be directing the movie adaptation of death stranding.
However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t involved in the movie. If you’re even remotely familiar with Kojima, you should know that the guy loves movies. So it’s not particularly surprising to hear that the video game creator has gotten “deeply involved” in the film. Over the weekend, Kojima took to his English Twitter to clarify his specific involvement with the film, writing, “To be clear, I am deeply involved in the production, supervision, plot, look, design, and content of the film adaptation. from DS., he’s just not in charge of directing.”
While he might try to make his games as movie-like as possible, I’m not surprised he’s not directing the project itself. Would you trust Kojima to direct a movie? From his tweet, it seems likely that the movie will stay true to the world of Death Stranding if he’s so involved in so many aspects, though whether or not it’s a direct adaptation is still unclear.
The Death Stranding film adaptation was announced last year, but there are very few details about the project as it stands. We do know that Hammerstone Studios is directing the film, with Kojima Productions serving as executive producer. Kojima himself was also confirmed to produce the film, along with Hammerstone Studios founder Alex Lebovici. Casting for the movie would obviously be pretty easy, as Sam is played by Norman Reedus, who’s best known for his film and TV work anyway.
Death Stranding 2 is also in the works right now, also announced last year, which will see the return of Reedus and his co-star Lea Seydoux. Unsurprisingly, the trailer doesn’t really tell you much, since we’re talking about Kojima. But you can expect it to come to PS5, at some point anyway.
To be clear, I am deeply involved in the production, supervision, plot, look, design, and content of the DS film adaptation, but I am not directing.
