For the first time ever, watch PlayStation’s infamous ‘Giant Enemy Crab’ E3 in glorious HD

In a blast from the past, game stations now the rather infamous E3 2006 press conference is available to watch in HD for the first time.
To the younger reader, you may not realize how important E3 once was, and how silly and crude it could be. Those of you who do remember, though, can probably recall PlayStation’s E3 2006 press conference, where the console maker revealed the console’s bewilderingly high launch price, and now, thanks to video game documentary makers Noclip, we can see everything in 1080p. To remind you what the price of the PS3 was in 2006, the 20 GB version of the console (imagine you need that little space) was $500. For context, adjusted for inflation, it would be just over $750, $250 more than what the PS5 costs now.
It can’t be overstated how poorly that price was received, especially since the cheapest Xbox 360 version released at $300, a much more reasonable entry point for those looking to pick up a next-gen (at the time) console. While the price was easily the worst part of the press conference for Sony, it wasn’t the only thing that makes it pretty ridiculous by the kind of standards we’ve come to expect from today’s presentations.
The conference also included classics like “Riiiiidge Racer!” an installment so unconvincing that you have to worry if that’s what ended the series. Of course, there’s also the “giant enemy crab” section that takes too long to even show the damn thing, but at least you know you can hit its weak spot for massive damage.
While it’s all a bit silly (and way too long, almost two hours), Noclip is documenting an incredibly interesting part of history. It’s really worth taking a look at all channelas the team slowly adds more and more trailer videos, lectures, and closed-door presentations that many of you may have never seen, or at least not in such high quality.
