Turns out there was a little more to the Silent Hill Town Fall teaser trailer of what was first thought as fans have discovered a sneaky secret.
After years of letting fans try to taste anything from Silent Hill, Konami I finally had something new to show, in fact I had more than one project to reveal. One of them was the incredibly mysterious Silent Hill Townfall, a title developed by the independent studio No Code. As reported by IGNHowever, not everything in the trailer is something you can see.
To briefly summarize the trailer, it shows an old portable TV showing a mix of scary-looking locations, with a man apparently talking to someone in a sinister tone. Of course, this being a Silent Hill game, fans were instantly wondering if there was something else in this short teaser that didn’t tell us too much. And there is: a secret message.
Reddit User MilkManEx I ripped the audio from the trailer, turned it into an MP3, and then found a suitably confusing phrase in the MP3’s spectrogram, sharing it on the show’s subreddit. “Whatever heart this town had has now stopped,” is the full messagewhich just makes me feel a bit uncomfortable.
Another fan in the same thread noted that a voice line 33 seconds into the trailer sounds like a woman saying, “Wow, is this really Alessa?” This name won’t mean much to the masses, but it will be quite significant to long-time fans of the series.
We’ll have to wait for more of No Code to see if some kind of ARG is in the works, but the studio has promised it will do something a little different with the series, so who knows what’s on the way.
Konami obviously had more to show than just Townfall this week, as it also revealed another new game, Silent Hill f, and the bigger (and less surprising) announcement that Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team is remaking Silent Hill 2. .
