Diablo 4 Season 1 theme teased ahead of today’s developer livestream

Blizzard is gearing up for the official reveal of the first season of Diablo 4, and the developer released a short teaser for the new season’s theme. We received a tweet with a short video showing some kind of black slime sweeping through Sanctuary.
That’s apparently “corruption,” and it’s the threat facing the world of Diablo 4 in Season 1, but that’s the information provided by Blizzard. That’s okay though, because later today, we’ll be hosting an extensive livestream to reveal the theme and start date for Diablo 4 Season 1.

It would be pretty fun if the threat ended up being zombies, as Blizzard used it as an example of how a seasonal theme will dictate the content players get during it. The developer emphasized, however, that it was fair an example, which is what would make it extra fun.
It’s hard to speculate at this stage, given how little information we have, but a post-credits scene (which apparently only some players got to see) may provide a clue as to the new season’s potential villain. Blizzard said that each season will feature new narrative content, so expect it to involve more than just a hunt for cosmetic rewards.
Still, today’s show will be a big moment for the studio as it’s the first season of Diablo 4 and it differs from the way the developer has done seasons for Diablo games in the past.
We will know for sure today in 11am PT / 2pm ET / 7pm BST, when the live broadcast begins. Technically, the Diablo 4 content reveals will be a bit later in the stream, as it’s also shared with Diablo Immortal.
