Bungie wants Destiny 2 PS5 players to know they might be playing the wrong version

In a recent blog post by bungeeit has come to light that a “remarkable” number of fate 2 PS5 players aren’t actually playing the correct version of the game.

In 2020, Destiny 2 players were treated to a next-gen port of the game, which added nothing new, but pushed the game to higher resolution, 60 frames per second, and faster load times. This was something that PS5 and Xbox Series X players could upgrade to, should they be lucky enough to have a console at the time. Except in the last This Week at Bungie blog postthe developer is giving PS5 players a “heads up” about the fact that non-zero players are playing the PS4 version of the game (thanks, Kotaku).

See, the thing about the PS5 being backwards compatible is that Sony has done it in a way that’s not that clear cut. Let’s say you buy a game that’s on both PS4 and PS5 through PlayStation Network. In fact, you can download the PS4 version of the game to your PS5, if you want, and it seems a lot of Destiny 2 players have been doing it by mistake.

“Notice PlayStation Guardians,” Bungie wrote in the blog post. “We’ve noticed a notable number of PS5 players playing the PS4 version of Destiny 2 on their current-gen consoles.” To help out PS5 players, Bungie even linked to a resource that PlayStation has to make it easy to update your game, something that honestly should be automatic.

This issue hasn’t come up on Xbox because you just download the Series X version of the game if you’re on a Series X, but Sony has never made things easy with backwards compatibility.

Bungie didn’t note how many players are “remarkable,” but it’s clearly big enough to warrant a small message. If he’s in that group, maybe update him to improve his experience in Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 fans also have a lot to look forward to, as was shown in their big showcase back in August.
