Bayonetta voice actor seeks to “defend myself and my reputation” in update to claims of lacklustre pay

Former Bayonetta voice actor Helena Taylor has elaborated on his original series of videos and claims about his absence from the main VO role of Bayonetta 3, which seems to confirm the findings made by Jason Schrier on Bloomberg last week. This includes confirmation that you were in fact initially offered $15,000, rather than the originally implied figure of $4,000.

This update comes from a Twitter thread posted on the actor’s Twitter, in which he states that he “feels the need to defend myself and my reputation.” She claims that the claim that she was offered $4,000 for five sessions was “total fabrications,” and goes on to encourage fans to boycott Bayonetta 3 as the October 28 release date approaches.

This statement, which apparently tries to refute the claims made by Bloomberg, at least seems to corroborate the reports. One point in the article, which states that she asked for a six-figure payment to work on the game, appears to be falsely challenged by Talyor, who claims that she had been informed of ridiculous fictions, such as asking for $250,000. , a figure not reported by Bloomberg.

This update makes what to many seemed like a case of undervaluing voice actors, an issue that is in fact legitimate despite the validity of Taylor’s own claims, substantially more complicated. For some, the update that introduces new information originally missing from the videos that started the issue, a number that had to be discovered by journalists, damages his claims. For others, the desire to be fairly paid for an important job at a popular franchise outweighs the flaws.

Hellena Taylor concludes her thread with what is apparently a dig at Jason Schrier’s reporting, writing, “There are people trying to throw shade and discredit what I say. The industry is powerful, they also have powerful journalists.” Whether or not his call for a boycott will maintain momentum after this development remains to be seen, as the world gets closer to its release.
