Alone in the dark is back, this time starring some celebs like Jodie Comer and David Harbour.

The couple will play the two leads that you will be able to take control of once the game launches. October 25. Harbor will take on the role of Detective Edward Carnby, while Comer will take the reins from Emily Hartwood.

There was recently a THQ spotlight for the game. Check it out!

For those who don’t know, Alone in the Dark was the original survival horror title before the more well-known genre giants like Resident Evil came along and stole the hearts of all. It received several sequels and reboots over the years with mixed reception. This time, it’s THQ who’s bringing it back for another shot.

The game, a third-person survival horror game, will put you in control of Detective Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood as they delve into all kinds of supernatural horror. You will be able to switch between each character, in the style of Resident Evil 2. It remains to be seen if these are totally independent or if we will bring back the brilliant zapping system as a true classic survival horror game.

One aspect of the new Alone in the Dark that may leave you a bit disappointed is its appearance. Sure, the facial capture of the main characters looks decent (to be expected considering the talent they’ve hired for it). But the game itself looks a bit weird. However, a brilliant engine is no guarantee of quality: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Redfall look great on your expensive PC, but they’re no good to play, right?

What’s especially interesting is the timing of Alone in the Dark coming out. We’re still in this period of a genuine renaissance in gaming horror, with numerous studios looking to the past for inspiration and intellectual property that they can bring back to the front lines. Resident Evil is the most obvious, but you also have Dead Space, System Shock, and a selection of exciting retro-inspired indies like Signalis.

Maybe this is the perfect time to bring back Alone in the Dark. If you are curious about it, you can download a prologue for the game now, which covers a bit of the narrative before the game proper begins and introduces all the characters you need to know. Try it on the platform of your choice, it’s free!
