Against all odds, XDefiant has got over 1 million players – and Ubisoft wants more

In a community reaction trailer that couldn’t have been less inclusive if it tried, XDefiant was shown off at the Ubisoft forward showcase. The showcase saw a reveal date and another beta test for the FPS game was announced.

XDefiant is a new shooter from Ubisoft that combines Ubisoft’s intellectual property across a variety of maps, factions, and easter eggs. Executive producer Mark Rubin took the stage at Ubisoft Forward to say that he had been “overwhelmed by the incredible response to our game from players around the world.”

Rubin continues: “The community has been at the core of our development, and we’ve had 28 public tests so far, with the recent closed beta being the largest. […] So, thank you very much to the million players who have participated in those tests”.

It certainly looks like Ubisoft is vying for more players from its next shooter and despite my less than generous opinions, I’d say it’s still worth a try if you fancy a new shooter to play.

Of course, Ubisoft looks to the future when it comes to XDefiant, with he plans to release the game “later this summer.” Before that though, there will be one more beta test to test some of the feedback from the closed beta from June 21 to 23and PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X players will be able to register via the Ubisoft website.

This test will be for Ubisoft to implement any feedback, test their netcode, and of course stress test the servers. So now is a better time than ever to sign up and test the game before launch.

That said, I’d still say that XDefiant is just another perfectly serviceable shooter; It’s nothing amazing, but it’s not terrible, and while it’s clearly trying to give Call of Duty a run for its money, I really don’t think it comes close. Still, with Ubisoft offering transparent communication regarding the game, XDefiant already has a pretty strong community behind it. Perhaps this is the much-needed shakeup shooter fans need right now.

Have you tried XDefiant recently or are you planning to soon? Let us know what you think of the game. I’m curious!
