Ubisoft is suspending “inactive” accounts, removing access to attached games

if you have a Ubisoft has some games attached to it, you may want to sign in before everything is removed.
In a further move that raises a question I’m sure Ubisoft is very familiar with (“why are you like this?”), it turns out that if your Ubisoft account has been inactive for an extended period of time, it can simply be closed. Earlier this week, Twitter user PC_enjoyer shared a screenshot of a support email from Ubisoft that allegedly told the user that their Ubisoft account had been suspended for being “inactive.” The email also warned that the account would be closed “permanently in 30 days,” which is obviously more concerning than simply suspending your account.
In case you’re wondering if this is just someone criticizing Ubisoft, the official Ubisoft support Twitter account responded to the original tweet. saying“We just wanted to say that you can prevent account closure by logging into your account within 30 days (from when you received the email shown in the image) and selecting the Cancel account closure link contained in the email. We certainly don’t want you to lose access to your games or account, so if you have any difficulty logging in, please create a support case with us.”
A report from a couple of years ago. it also found that a player with a Ubisoft account that had games attached to it had also been banned, despite stating that it would not in such cases. Ubisoft apparently claimed it would close the accounts to comply with Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation, but this time around it’s not particularly clear why it’s threatening to close an account that presumably has games attached to it.
There’s also no official word on how long your account needs to be inactive before Ubisoft decides it’s time to delete it, so even if you haven’t logged in in a while, it might be worth doing just to save access to games you may have purchased.
