If you love driving and flying cars, then the recent announcement of Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freaks It’s probably right up your alley.
Developed by Caged Element Inc., Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks (no, I’m not going to write the zeros every time, are you kidding?) is the latest adaptation of the board game. This time, you will only play as Orks, but Orks who love to blow things up and drive over the top insanely, but also insanely designed cars to kill. And if any of that has piqued your interest, there’s already an alpha playtest you can sign up for on the game’s website. steam page right now.
A short disclaimer is included on the game’s page stating: “This alpha version of the game is a bit rudimentary, rickety, and bolted on, just like the Orks you drive. Please note that there will be bugs/issues, and we still have some development ahead, and we want the players to be a part of it.”
It all sounds great, though: For one thing, it has classes just like you’d find in an RPG or hero shooter, albeit with cars instead of characters. This includes classes like assassins, tanks, and support tanks, which all sound like their usual DPS, tank, and support roles. In addition, there are seven unique vehicles to try and offer different styles.
The core gameplay featured in the alpha is described as “a hard-hitting combat racing conquest that ends in a glorious sprint to the finish. A fresh take on the vehicular shooter, this mode sees players compete to capture points where they battle “. for the highest score, and makes them put the pedal to the metal in a race to the finish.”
As someone not that familiar with the Warhammer universe, this is giving me some Jak X vibes, that Jak and Daxter racing game that probably wasn’t very good, but man, did I like the vibes as a kid, so that I’m into what Speed Freeks is offering.
Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks does not have a release date at this time, and is currently only planned for a PC release.
