Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s devs weigh in on which Link smells the worst

Ever wanted to know which Link smells the worst? The developers behind The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have the answer.

There are so many questions about lore and the world of Zelda that can be asked and answered. What happened to Twili after Twilight Princess? Did Ocarina of Time Link die a sad death? How does time travel work? None of that matters though, as we have the answer to perhaps the most important question in perhaps all of Zelda history: we now know which Link smells worse.

Granted, this isn’t something most people care about, but I love silly little things like this, so it means the world to me. There are quite a few Links throughout the Zelda series, so surely one of them must emerge victorious as the one who should really take a shower. And according to an interview with cabling (thank you, Kotaku), Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma, and Tears of the Kingdom director Hidemaru Fujibayashi have their own opinions on which Link sucks the most.

Aonuma actually shared that he thinks the most recent Link, i.e. the one from Breath of the Wild, has the potential to produce the most BO. Aonuma mentioned the barbarian armor that Link can wear, which is made of bones and fur. “That might be a bit stinky,” he said, taking note of her “wild animal scent scent.” Fujibayashi had a different opinion, instead mentioning a slightly older Link: the one from Twilight Princess. “There are some scenes in Twilight Princess where Link gets involved in a sumo wrestling match with the Goron tribe,” he said. “I imagine he’s pretty stinky in that situation.”

Ultimately though, no matter how smelly or not smelly any of the Links is, Aonuma had one last thought on the subject: “Actually, Ganon might be the smelliest, if I’m thinking about it.” While that part of the interview is pretty silly, it’s worth reading in its entirety, as it explains why they decided to return to the world of Breath of the Wild.

This is just one of the many big questions that have been asked with the recent release of Tears of the Kingdom. There are also other pressing ones, like can you pet the dog? (The answer may bug you, but fans are coming up with creative solutions) and why is Ganondorf so hot?
