New World blasts past concurrent player record following Brimstone Sands update and Steam sale
[ad_1]
New World has broken its concurrent player record, reaching over 100,000 adventures exploring the world of Aeternum last weekend. This is largely due to the new Brimstone Sands update, as well as a 50% sale on Steam.
Amazon Games’ MMORPG first launched in September 2021. While it started with a very healthy initial player base, the server population began to decline as the months went by. However, it seems that with the major events happening in the game in the last few days, a wave of new players have given the game a second chance.
Not only does this mean they get to experience the new content, but they may also find that some of the things that drove them away have been fixed (or at least improved) in the past few months.
If you’re thinking of jumping back in, but are legitimately concerned that you’ll find yourself with a server full of max level characters, inflated markets, and a dominant faction imbalance, new servers were also released alongside the Brimstone Sands update, which allows you to have a new adventure with other like-minded players.
Whether or not New World can maintain this momentum remains to be seen. We’ve seen before how the game can attract a sizable community, only to lose it in the weeks that follow. If nothing else, the immediate future will help determine once and for all whether it was server issues, bugs, or other launch issues that turned players away, or whether the core New World gameplay was simply not acceptable to a large audience. .
For what it’s worth, I’m hoping New World manages to retain a sizable post from the Brimstone Sands community. The development team moved on long after the game was canceled by many, and it’s clear from the content updates they’ve released in recent months that they were aware of at least a sizable portion of the issues players were having. Ultimately, healthier MMO games can only be healthy for the genre, and it would be a shame to see this one fizzle out.
But what do you think? Will you jump in and try New World while it’s on sale? Let us know below, as well as if you think the game will keep up this momentum.
