Kojima Productions will stay independent “as long as I’m alive,” says Hideo Kojima

Hideo Kojima apparently keeps getting offers for Kojima Productions be acquired, but insists on remaining independent until he dies.

If you somehow missed the last seven years of Kojima-related news, in 2015 he formed his own studio after a rather messy divorce with Konami. His own studio, named after him, has remained independent ever since, and the solid metal gear The creator has no intention of changing that. As in the latest episode of his Spotify podcast, he made it clear that Kojima Productions is staying away from a purchase (via eurogamer).

“I created this company in December 2015 after leaving Konami,” Kojima explained on his podcast. “It was 100 percent out of pocket, with no funding from anyone. We’re independent, we don’t have any affiliations and we’re not endorsed by anyone, and we’re on good terms with everyone in the industry.”

“Every day I get offers from all over the world to buy our studio. Some of those offers are ridiculously high prices, but it’s not like I want money. I want to do what I want to do. That’s why I created this studio. So as long as I’m alive I don’t think I’ll ever accept those offers.”

He wasn’t being hyperbolic about the ‘stay until he’s dead’ thing. It’s not particularly surprising that Kojima wants to retain control of the company from him considering how things ended with Konami (still upset about Silent Hills, though Silent Hill f looks good so far).

In terms of what’s next for Kojima, recently the game’s creator has been, a bit unpleasantly, teasing his next project, which is likely to be Overdose. Some gameplay for this particular project surfaced online earlier this week, though it’s easily one of the strangest ways a leak has been shown. You will see what I mean.
