As Overwatch 2’s Halloween Terror event kicks off, fans can’t stop complaining about poor value

Back in the day, the Overwatch Halloween Horror events were something the community came together to celebrate. The event first started in 2016, the same year the first game was released. The seasonal event would kick off every year afterward, with exclusive cosmetics, seasonal loot boxes, and an exclusive fight in the form of Junkenstein’s Revenge.
Now that we are in a new era with surveillance 2, and the original is no longer playable at all, we have to settle for the new interpretation of the event. And the players are not happy.
heading to the overwatch subreddityou can see the community complaining about the value of this event compared to what we saw in the heady loot-box days of Overwatch.
the top position on the social media platform today reads “remember when it was rewarding to play the game?” and it simply shows a picture of what you may have gotten from a loot box (exaggerated for comedic effect), compared to what you have to pay ($40) for two of the new skins.
Then you have the next two most popular posts today – the morning of the day the event goes live. A simply states “no skin as a reward for playing the Halloween event sucks” and the other is a comparison of what you get for $40 in Overwatch 2, compared to what you could have gotten in Overwatch (embedded below).
Continue browsing the subreddit, or take a look at the Overwatch hashtag on Twitter, and you’ll see that this is a common theme throughout the community; people are irritated by the way Halloween Terror is being implemented in Overwatch 2, and they’re being very vocal about it. Due to how unpopular the battle pass already is and the game’s failed launch, this is yet another controversy that Blizzard could have done without.
Perhaps my favorite comment from any of the threads I’ve been browsing this morning is this one, buried deep in the conversation of the first insert in this article: “Seeing someone with great skin go ‘wow, how did you get that? I want it!’ into ‘lol, did you pay for that? What the fuck are you doing?'” That’s probably not the optic Blizzard wants for their game, right?
From now until November 9, playing the event will earn you the Nightfall Over Adlersbrunn ID Card, Jack-o’-Lantern Weapon Charm, and Battle Pass XP.
If you want a skin for all of this, you’ll need to tune into the Overwatch 2 Twitch streams to unlock a Werewolf Winston spray and legendary skin. Although it’s not the same as playing to unlock them, right?
